Jetstar Asia Airways (3K, Singapore Changi) has announced it has taken over ValuAir's flights with effect from October 26. The move comes after the Indonesian government lifted restrictions forbidding foreign budget carriers from operating to Singapore from the four main markets of Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta, Denpasar, Medan Kuala Namu and Surabaya.

“It’s business as usual for our flights between Singapore and Indonesia,” Jetstar Asia CEO Barathan Pasupathi said. “Operating under the one brand with one airline code, will further streamline and simplify customer communications particularly for our growing number of Indonesia passengers travelling with us through Singapore to one of the other 18 Jetstar Asia destinations.”

Having acquired Valuair in 2005, Jetstar Asia chose to maintain the brand rather than absorb it as technically, the Indonesian authorities had classified Valuair as a "boutique" carrier and not a Low Cost Carrier thereby allowing it the coveted traffic rights. Valuair, when launched in 2004, was the first low-cost airline in Singapore.
