IranAir (IR, Tehran Mehrabad) retired its last remaining operational B747SP, EP-IAC (msn 21093), from revenue service following a sightseeing farewell flight on Sunday, November 23. The 37-year old aircraft took off from Tehran Mehrabad for a one-hour long flight that covered the Alborz mountain range as well as the Caspian Sea before returning home.
Though the Iranian carrier was the last commercial operator of the type, the following private/governmental agencies continue their own respective B747SP operations: Saudi Arabian Royal Flight, Las Vegas Sands, Pratt & Whitney Canada, Bahrain Royal Flight, CC2B (United States of America), Ernest Angley Ministries, NASA (United States of America), Oman Royal Flight, and Qatar Amiri Flight.
