Singapore Airlines (SQ, Singapore Changi) budget subsidiaries Scoot (TR, Singapore Changi) and Tigerair (Singapore Changi) have begun operating flights from Singapore Changi to Hong Kong International and Bangkok Don Mueang/Bangkok Suvarnabhumi as joint venture services in a bid to enhance their operational complementarity.
Scoot and Tigerair have seen a doubling of passengers connecting between the two airlines thanks to more competitive airfares, co-ordinated joint promotions and the launch of new itineraries made possible by the combining of each carrier's route networks.
In a similar vein, Scoot will next month increase its Singapore - Perth International frequencies to daily thereby allowing Tigerair to redeploy its aircraft to other markets.
“We have long maintained that Tigerair and Scoot are natural partners, and the early gains from our new phase of co-operation reinforce this belief," Lee Lik Hsin, Group CEO of Tigerair, said. "The upcoming rollout of joint-venture routes, deeper system integration and schedule co-ordination will further strengthen both partners and, most importantly, provide greater convenience and flight options to our guests.”
Both carriers are also working towards allowing seamless booking of each other’s flights on their respective websites. The eventual integration of the two airlines' reservations systems will also improve connectivity, range of flight times and destinations available to prospective clients.
Planned future initiatives include common ground handling, procurement and service centres.
