B&H Airlines (Sarajevo) is currently faced with a possible grounding due to its financial difficulties. At the moment, the airline is just operating on a reduced schedule with a single ATR72-200 E7-AAE (msn 465). EX-YU Aviation reports that it would be uncertain if the flag carrier will survive the following days.
The financially ailing airline has been through a lot of troubles recently. The carrier that has accumulated huge debt over the years has been near collapse for several weeks now as it has been unable to pay back debts and outstanding fees.
Two weeks ago, the government of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced it would provide financial assistance for the state-owned carrier. According to the report, the government is however not able to provide any funds as long no new budget is approved which is unlikely to happen before next month due to formation of a new cabinet.
Without access to new funds, the airline was forced to suspend flights from Sarajevo to Belgrade Nikola Tesla while it continues to serve Zurich via Banja Luka International and Copenhagen Kastrup, both from Sarajevo.
Earlier this week, EX-YU Aviation reported that the airline might have to suspend operations according to company sources as Eurocontrol would close its airspace for the carrier due to unpaid debts starting February 19. B&H Airlines however still continues to serve Copenhagen and Zurich as of now.
