Ryanair (FR, Dublin International) has announced plans to open up flights from the controversial eastern Spanish airport of Castellón de la Plana Costa Azahar to the United Kingdom later this year.
Located north of Valencia on Spain's Mediterranean coast, the facility was built at a total cost of EUR150 million (USD159 million) and despite opening in March 2011, has yet to see any commercial traffic.
However, the Irish budget carrier has said that effective September 15, it will open up flights to London Stansted and Bristol International.
"Ryanair is pleased to announce new Castellon routes to/from London Stansted and Bristol beginning in September," Ryanair's Sales and Marketing Manager, Jose Espartero said. "This new three times weekly service to/from London Stansted and twice weekly service to/from Bristol will deliver 60,000 customers per annum at Castellon airport, our 24th Spanish airport."
