Jambojet (JM, Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta) has leased a maiden Dash 8-400 from DAC Aviation East Africa (Nairobi Wilson) for use in developing thinner domestic routes CEO Willem Hondius has said.
Speaking to the Kenyan press last week, Hondius said the turboprop would be used in launching services to Lamu, Malindi and Ukunda from Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta beginning March 28.
"We have chartered this aircraft to complement our current fleet of three Boeing 737 planes which are serving the existing routes. However, the Q400 will also be utilised on Kisumu and Eldoret in order to improve services on these two routes," he said.
Launched early last year, the Kenya Airways (KQ, Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta) subsidiary has concentrated on developing its domestic market presence with plans to expand internationally to destinations such as Addis Ababa International, Zanzibar, Dar es Salaam, and Entebbe.
