Malaysia Airlines (MH, Kuala Lumpur International) says it is in preliminary discussions with several parties insofar as its A380-800 fleet plans are concerned. Last week, international media reported the carrier would either sell off or lease out its six A380s as part of parent Khazanah's restructuring plans.
In a statement issued to AINOnline, the Malaysian carrier said it would ground two A380s, currently used on its Kuala Lumpur International-Paris CDG route, early next month replacing them with B777-200(ER) machinery.
Turkish Airlines (TK, Istanbul Airport), which has been linked to a deal for the A380s, earlier this year said no decision regarding the purchase or lease of an A380 aircraft had been made and that it would therefore not be operating the type in 2015. However, the Turks are said to be close to finalizing an extension to a year-long wet-lease agreement with the Malaysians involving one A330-200F - 9M-MUC (cn 1164). Khazanah has reportedly slated MASkargo's fleet of four A330-200(F)s and two B747-400(F)s for disposal as well.
Malaysia Airlines will make an official announcement concerning its future network and fleet plans later in the year.
