Air Djibouti (DJ, Djibouti) commenced commercial operations on Monday, August 3 with cargo flights from Djibouti to Hargeisa and Mogadishu in Somalia. Operations are on-board 5Y-JUU (cn 10448), a Fokker 27 freighter leased from Kenya's Astral Aviation (8V, Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta).
As part of its initial phase of operations, the Djiboutian national carrier will focus on regional freight flights with Juba in South Sudan and Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta in Kenya among its next destinations.
Thereafter, from November onwards, Air Djibouti will source five more aircraft including a B737, a B757, and a B767 for its first passenger flights to Paris, London, Dubai International, and Mumbai International.
Air Djibouti is a 70/30 venture between the Djibouti Ports and Free Zones Authority and Aéroport International de Djibouti (AID). Wales-based aircraft services and MRO provider, Cardiff Aviation, is providing technical assistance.
