Air India (AI, Delhi International) is set to commence direct flights between India and the West Coast of the United States in December of this year.
"We are launching a direct non-stop flight to San Francisco on December 2 as there was a demand for it," Air India CMD Ashwani Lohani was quoted by NDTV news as stating.
The flight will operate 3x weekly from Delhi International on-board B777-200(LR) equipment. Aimed at the tech-market, Air India has had the route on its drawing board for some time but deferred its launch owing to high oil prices.
Currently, the Indian national carrier uses its B777-300(ER)s to connect Ahmedabad, Mumbai International, Delhi and Hyderabad International with New York Newark, New York JFK, and Chicago O'Hare.
