Mount Hagen International Airport in central Papua New Guinea was formally reopened by Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill on Thursday, November 26, following the completion of a new PGK70 million (USD7.97 million) international terminal.
In his speech, O'Niell noted that national carrier Air Niugini (PX, Port Moresby) would operate the airfield's first international flight to Jayapura in Indonesia early next year.
“We will also bring and have international flights from Australia to Mt Hagen so people do not have to go to Port Moresby to get to Australia, instead they can take a direct flight to Australia from Mt Hagen," he said.
Other operators, aside from Air Niugini, that serve the town include PNG Air (CG, Port Moresby) and Travel Air (Madang).
