Camair-Co (QC, Douala) will shortly commence commercial MA-60 operations Cameroonian Minister of Transport Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo’o has told a local Parliamentary Committee on Finance and Budget.
Though the carrier's two MA-60s - TJX-SD and TJX-SE - arrived in-country back in March, they have only recently completed type-certification with the country's civil aviation authority (Autorité aéronautique du Cameroun - AAC) Ngo'o said. As such, the turboprops are expected to begin domestic operations around Christmas, he said.
The aircraft are part of a trio ordered by the Cameroonian government for XAF61billion (USD115 million) in 2011. All three are understood to be registered on the AOC of Section Liaison Air Yaoundé (Yaoundé Nsimalen).
The acquisition of the aircraft has proven contentious for the airline's constantly changing management. Former CEO Matthijs Boertien has warned that operating the aircraft, which has yet to secure US and European type certification, could hurt Camair's chances of interlining with a major airline alliance.
