Fastjet Zimbabwe (FN, Harare International) is set to commence international operations next month with flights from Harare International and Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, to Johannesburg O.R. Tambo in South Africa. The LCC said in a statement that effective February 1, Harare-Johannesburg flights would operate daily while Victoria Falls-Johannesburg would operate 3x weekly initially.
"There are significant historical, commercial and political links between the two countries, and it is estimated that more than 3 million Zimbabweans now live in South Africa," outgoing Fastjet (Dar es Salaam) CEO Ed winter said. "fastjet Zimbabwe is now well placed to capitalise on the opportunities that this market offers."
Having launched in October last year with Harare-Victoria Falls flights, fastjet expects to receive additional international route approvals later on this quarter. The carrier has mentioned Kenya, Zambia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Botswana, and Malawi as potential destinations in the past.
As with their Tanzanian sister carrier, fastjet Zimbabwe and the nascent Fastjet Zambia (Lusaka) are expected to interline with Emirates (EK, Dubai International) wherein the budget carrier will provide feeder flights into the Emirati carrier's Dubai International-Lusaka-Harare Int'l daily return service.
