A Western Global Airlines (KD, Fort Myers Southwest Florida) MD-11(F) has been impounded at Harare International after Zimbabwean authorities discovered blood dripping from the aircraft during refuelling.
The Herald newspaper reports the freighter, confirmed to be N545JN (msn 48545), was en-route from Munich to South Africa on Saturday, February 13 when it requested to divert to Mozambique. The request was denied resulting in the aircraft heading to Harare instead. There, a refuelling agent noticed blood emanating from the aircraft which then lead to the discovery of a dead body - believed to be that of a stowaway.
The trijet's crew, said to include two Americans, a Pakistani and a South African, has since been detained in Harare while the local police carry out investigations.
According to the ch-aviation aircraft database, N545JN is actually wet-leased to Nigeria's Allied Air (4W, Lagos). At the time of the incident, it was reportedly carrying an unspecified consignment for the South African Reserve Bank (SARB).
