AirAsia (AK, Kuala Lumpur International) has wet-leased an A330-300 from sister carrier AirAsia X (D7, Kuala Lumpur International) to cover peak demand on its Kuala Lumpur International-Kota Kinabalu route.

In a filing to the Bursa Malaysia, the LCC said the contract would run from March 17, 2016 through to June 12, 2016.

AirAsia currently operates a fleet of eighty A320-200s on flights throughout Asia.

Meanwhile, AirAsia Group founder and CEO Tony Fernandes says the AirAsia X is considering starting longhaul flights to Russia following talks with the chairwoman of the Russian Federation Council, Valentina Matvienko, in Kuala Lumpur last week.

At present, AirAsia X serves twenty destinations throughout South East and North Asia, the Gulf, and Oceania.
