Qinhuangdao Beidaihe has opened to commercial traffic with Hebei Airlines (NS, Shijiazhuang) operating the airfield's first scheduled departure on March 31.
The airport replaces IATA!SHP which closed to civilian traffic on the same date. As it stands, Shanhaiguan is now used exclusively by the People's Liberation Army Air Force (CKJ, Beijing Nanyuan).
Located 47km from downtown Qinhuangdao, Beidaihe airport features a 2,600m-long primary runway with a handling capacity of 500,000 passengers per annum.
Hebei Airlines serves Qinhuangdao three times weekly from Qingdao Jiaodong and Shijiazhuang using E190s. In addition, Hainan Airlines (HU, Haikou) operates a four times weekly service from the airport via Xuzhou to Guangzhou with B737-800s while Shanghai Airlines (FM, Shanghai Hongqiao) operates daily to Shanghai Pudong with B737-700s.
