The Alaska Air Group has signed an order with Embraer (EMB, São José dos Campos U.E. Stumpf International) for thirty E175s with options for an additional thirty-three of the type. Deliveries are scheduled to run from 2017 through to 2019.
As part of its fleet renewal plan, Horizon Air (QX, Seattle Tacoma International) will use the aircraft to replace older Dash 8-400s as their leases expire. Horizon, which operates Alaska Horizon flights for its parent Alaska Airlines (AS, Seattle Tacoma International), says the Embraer (EMB, São José dos Campos U.E. Stumpf International) Regional Jets will also allow it to open up "long, thin routes" i.e. to serve destinations that are currently out of range for its fleet of fifty-two Q400s, but which, at present, do not have enough customer demand to fill a mainline jet.
