VLM (1992) (Antwerp) will close its Waterford, Ireland base with effect from June 16. The Belgian carrier has already begun curtailing operations out of the southern Irish town with service to Birmingham, GB already discontinued and London Luton set to end on June 16.
VLM is currently undergoing a drastic restructuring of its operations and route network after it successfully filed for bankruptcy in an Antwerp commercial court late last month.
As it currently stands, VLM still serves routes from Antwerp to Hamburg Helmut Schmidt and Southampton and from Friedrichshafen to Berlin Tegel, Düsseldorf and Hamburg Helmut Schmidt using a fleet of eleven Fokker 50s, four of which are either away in service for flybe. (2002) (Exeter) or CityJet (WX, Dublin International), or in storage.
The move by VLM leaves the airport in the South of Ireland without commercial service.
