Dickinson Theodore Roosevelt Regional Airport, located in Southwest North Dakota, is set to lose its last remaining scheduled service in September this year after United Airlines (UA, Chicago O'Hare) announced its impending withdrawal.
"United Airlines served notice that they will be suspending service in Dickinson effective September 27, unless they can receive an Essential Air Service subsidy," Kelly Braun, airport manager, told the local KFYR TV station.
Passenger throughput dropped from 60,000 in 2014 to 41,000 in 2015 in the wake of the decline in the price of oil, the town's primary export. As such, local councilors intend to reapply for EAS assistance which was in force prior to the 2013 economic boom in Western North Dakota.
Under the United Express banner, Trans States Airlines (St. Louis Lambert International) currently operates multiple daily flights from Dickinson to Denver International.
