Japanese aircraft retailer, Sojitz Aerospace Corporation (SOASCO), has signed a firm order agreement with Switzerland's RUAG Aerospace (Emmen) for one Do228NewGen.
The turboprop will be delivered to Japanese carrier, NCA - New Central Aviation (Niijima), towards the end of the year.
NCA operates four of the type, in both passenger and cargo configurations, on regular flights between Chofu and the city’s southern islands of Oshima, Kozushima, Miyake Jima, and Niijima.
The Dornier twinprop is seen as ideal for NCA's market requirements given its short take-off and landing (STOL) capabilities as well as high crosswind stability, both of which are vital to safe operations into and out of the islands’ runways.
