Jambojet (JM, Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta) has signed a codeshare agreement with parent firm and Skyteam member Kenya Airways (KQ, Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta).
Under the terms of the agreement, which took effect August 1, Kenya Airways will put its ‘KQ’ flightcode on Jambojet flights to Malindi, Lamu, Ukunda and Eldoret.
The move is part of a Kenya Airways' capacity optimization plan which will see a greater proportion of its domestic network being shifted to its Jambojet LCC. As such, Kenya Airways will now focus its domestic operations on Mombasa and Kisumu thus allowing Jambojet will expand its total weekly Malindi flights to seventeen.
"We are delighted to seal this agreement, which will allow us to enhance connectivity between the two networks. This will bring about a greater flow of both local and international travelers and boost the number of tourists to the Coastal cities,” Jambojet CEO Willem Hondius said. “Without a doubt this agreement will contribute to our growth as a low cost carrier and with the increased number of flights, we will further improve our service offering to our customers travelling to Malindi."
Jambojet is currently restricted to domestic Kenyan operations operating a fleet of two B737-300s and two Dash 8-400s (leased from DAC Aviation East Africa (Nairobi Wilson)). Its most recent application to the Kenyan Civil Aviation authority for international rights to serve Juba, Entebbe, Dar es Salaam, Mwanza, Bujumbura, Kigali, Zanzibar, Kilimanjaro, and Addis Ababa International from either of Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta or Mombasa, was rejected as was that of Fastjet Kenya (Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta).
