The southwest Texan border town of Del Rio International is edging closer to resuming scheduled commercial passenger flights after the US Department of Transportation (DOT) greenlighted an application submitted by Texas Sky (Victoria, TX) to modify its network operations.

The move will allow the virtual carrier, whose tickets are sold by parent Public Charters but whose flights are operated by Corporate Flight Management, to start flights to Austin-Bergstrom International and Dallas/Fort Worth.

Minutes of a Del Rio municipality meeting last month indicate the town's council has also voted in favour of reaching an agreement with Texas Sky to subsidize the proposed services.

Del Rio's last regular commercial flight - in April 2013 - was operated by an ExpressJet Airlines (Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson) E145 to Houston Intercontinental under the United Express banner.
