Surigao Airport, in the Filipino province of Surigao del Norte, has reopened to all traffic just two weeks after it was first closed for repairs.
The facility's 1,700 metre-long runway 18/36 sustained heavy damage during an earthquake on February 10. The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) subsequently issued a NOTAM warning that with repairs underway, the airfield would only reopen after March 10 at the earliest.
However, following accelerated works, the CAAP issued a second NOTAM this week indicating commercial flights out of Surigao would resume from 06h00L, February 23, onwards.
For the duration of the closure, Cebgo (DG, Manila Ninoy Aquino International) and PAL Express (2P, Manila Ninoy Aquino International) used Butuan airport, located ninety kilometres away
