Cathay Pacific (CX, Hong Kong International) has signed a cooperation agreement with Lufthansa Group wherein the two sides will partner each other on codesharing and frequent flyer programme exchanges.
Under the terms of the agreement signed this week, Lufthansa, Swiss, and Austrian Airlines will place their respective flight-codes on Cathay Pacific-operated services from Hong Kong to Cairns, Melbourne Tullamarine, and Sydney Kingsford Smith in Australia and Auckland International in New Zealand from April 26, 2017.
In return, Cathay Pacific will place its "CX" flight-code on Lufthansa, Swiss and Austrian flights to fourteen destinations in Germany, Belgium, Hungary, Norway, Italy, Switzerland, and Austria.
In terms of the Lufthansa codeshare, the flights are between Frankfurt International and: Berlin Tegel, Brussels National, Budapest, Dresden, Hannover, Hamburg Helmut Schmidt, Munich, Nuremberg, Oslo Gardermoen and Stuttgart Manfred Rommel.
In terms of the Swiss codeshare, the flights are between Zurich and: Berlin, Brussels, Florence Peretola, Geneva, Hamburg, Stuttgart, and Venice Marco Polo.
In terms of the Austrian Airlines codeshare, the flights are between Vienna and: Frankfurt, Zurich, and Düsseldorf.
Passengers who are members of Cathay Pacific’s travel and lifestyle rewards programme, Asia Miles, and Lufthansa Group’s loyalty programme, Miles and More, will also be eligible to earn and redeem miles when travelling on the above codeshare routes. Members of Cathay Pacific’s loyalty programme, Marco Polo Club, will also be able to earn Club Points when travelling on codeshare flights marketed by Cathay Pacific and operated by Lufthansa Group.
The agreement is an extension of an existing cooperation agreement between the two operators. Cathay Pacific Cargo and Lufthansa Cargo (LH, Frankfurt International) signed a cooperation agreement back in May 2016 and, since February 2017, have jointly marketed their capacities on flights between Hong Kong and Europe. Cathay Pacific Cargo has also taken over Lufthansa Cargo’s airfreight handling operations in Hong Kong and Lufthansa those of Cathay Pacific in Frankfurt. Joint shipments from Europe to Hong Kong are planned from 2018.
