AirAsia (AK, Kuala Lumpur International) is reportedly in talks to launch flights at Thailand's Hua Hin, marking the airport's first international operations after several years without such service. The Bangkok Post reports that AirAsia is keen to start 5x weekly flights to Kuala Lumpur International from November.
Kan Air (KND, Chiang Mai) previously operated flights to Chiang Mai domestically, but these ceased in June 2017.
According to Thai Visa News, Hua Hin Airport Authority spokesman Darun Saengchai has said that AirAsia wants rental fees and landing charges to be waived in its start-up phase.
Although the airport is not currently able to process international travellers, Saengchai believes that it is ready for commercial flights.
"The airport can handle 300 passengers per hour," he said. "The proximity to the town is a major bonus for travellers."
Hua Hin is a seaside destination popular for its long beach. The airport has a main runway 2,100 metres 16/34 and is located approximately ten kilometres from Hua Hin town centre.
