Starbow Airlines (Accra) has suspended flight operations following a runway incident involving its recently inducted ATR72-500 on Saturday, November 25.
Operating as flight S9 104 from Accra to Kumasi, 9G-SBF (msn 743) was accelerating down Accra's runway 21 for take-off when one of its turboprops seized. Amid heavy rainfall, the aircraft subsequently veered off the runway before colliding with perimeter fencing. Local media reports indicate that none of the sixty-three passengers and five crew sustained any life-threatening injuries. The aircraft, which had only arrived in-country from Nordic Aviation Capital on Wednesday, November 22, sustained substantial damage.
In the wake of the incident, Starbow Chief Executive Officer James Antwi said operations had been suspended until further notice.
"We will cooperate fully with the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, and other agencies, to determine the cause of this incident. We hope to be able to provide further information in due course," he said.
Aside from the ATR, Starbow Airlines also operates one ARJ-100 on flights to Takoradi and Tamale from its Accra hub.
