Thai AirAsia (FD, Bangkok Don Mueang) will begin to phase in more than ten A321neo into its fleet in 2019, chief executive Tassapon Bijleveld has said.
Speaking to The Bangkok Post, Tassapon said the 240-seater jets will be deployed on flights to slot-constrained airports.
"We can deploy these A321neos in busy airports that have no slots, such as Bangkok Don Mueang, Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Hong Kong International," he said.
The aircraft will be sourced from parent firm AirAsia's order with Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) for 100 A321neo. At present, the LCC operates fifty A320 and five A320neo on scheduled passenger flights throughout Thailand as well as to India, China, Malaysia, the Maldives, Myanmar, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Indonesia, Laos, Macau, and Singapore.
According to Tassapon, Thai AirAsia aims to expand its fleet to 63 aircraft by year-end 2018, and 80 over the next three years. The added capacity will be used to open up new services in the CLMV (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam) market as well as in the Philippines.
