BackBone Aviation (Esbjerg) has confirmed it has ceased all operations as of Wednesday, January 17. In a statement, the Danish ACMI/charter carrier said in light of its difficulties, its board and management had now chosen to voluntarily suspend its air operator's certificate.
"We tried!" it said on its Facebook page. "But we failed to succeed with our business model."
BackBone added that it is continuing negotiations with potential investors and still hopes to secure ACMI or charter contracts allowing it to eventually resume operations.
It blamed its financial difficulties on the delayed delivery of additional aircraft in 2017 causing a UK ACMI contract to be cancelled. It also singled out the collapse of a multi-aircraft ACMI deal with PowdAir (Sion) "mere days before scheduled flights were due to commence", as a key mitigating factor.
BackBone Aviation commenced operations in 2011 proffering two CRJ200s to the ACMI/charter market. According to Flightradar24 ADS-B data, its last commercial service took place on January 4 when it operated ad-hoc ACMI services for NextJet (Stockholm Arlanda).
