European Aviation has signed an agreement with Etihad Airways concerning the purchase of ten A340s from the Emirati carrier. The first two aircraft were transferred to the UK-based firm last month.
The first Airbus quadjet to be repositioned is A340-600 A6-EHJ (msn 933), notable for its Formula 1-themed livery, which was ferried from Abu Dhabi International to Bournemouth on January 17. Sistership A6-EHK (msn 1030) joined it from storage at Teruel on January 20.
European Aviation said in a statement issued January 29 the deal covers a total of seven A340-600s and three A340-500s, all of which were operated by Etihad Airways until their retirement from active service in mid-2017.
According to Flightradar24 ADS-B data, the three A340-500s have been in storage at Teruel since mid-2017 alongside four A340-600s. Another A340-600, A6-EHH (msn 870), has been in Abu Dhabi since July 2017.
European Aviation also owns two B737-200Adv.s, four B737-400(F)s, one B737-300, and two B737-500s. In the past, it had also purchased some ex-British Airways B747s, operating them on, among other contracts, Formula 1 charter flights under the European Aircharter brand.
