Berjaya Air (J8, Kuala Lumpur Subang) will add a pair of second-hand ATR42-500s to its fleet during the course of this year.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of parent firm Berjaya Hotels & Resorts said the ATR - Avions de Transport Régional turboprops will be configured in a luxurious 36-seat configuration and will be used to launch flights between Kuala Lumpur Subang and the Malaysian island of Pulau Redang where the hotel group has two resorts - The Taaras Beach & Spa Resort as well as the Redang Island Resort.

“This air charter services will be operated by Berjaya Air Sdn Bhd," Hanley Chew told the New Straits Times newspaper during the Singapore Air Show 2018. "We have plans to purchase brand new ATR planes in the future but as of now, we will start the service with the two ATR42s."

The first aircraft will be delivered in April ahead of the service's launch in June.

For its part, Berjaya Air has operated largescale turboprop equipment before in the form of ATR72-500s and Dash 7s.
