AirAsia X (D7, Kuala Lumpur International) will not buy ten A350-900s it ordered in 2009 as it sees the aircraft as too expensive, AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes has been reported as saying by Reuters.
"The A350 is not an aircraft we will buy," Fernandes has stressed. AirAsia X currently also has sixty-six A330-900s on order with Airbus.
According to Reuters, the carrier is also still engaged in negotiations with Boeing regarding the potential purchase of B787-10s. A final decision on the future fleet for AirAsia X, the long-haul wing of the low-cost South-East Asian group, is expected later this year.
Currently, AirAsia X operates twenty-two A330-300s. According to the ch-aviation fleets module, its sister carrier Indonesia AirAsia X operates a further two aircraft of the type (as well as five narrowbody A320s), while Thai AirAsia X operates seven A330-300s. The group's narrowbody fleet consists exclusively of A320 Family aircraft, including the neo variant.
