Boeing (BOE, Washington National) has confirmed further delays to the delivery of its first aircraft to IranAir (IR, Tehran Mehrabad).
Iran Air ordered fifty B737-8s, fifteen B777-300(ER)s, and fifteen B777-9s from Boeing following the signing of the 2015 P5+1 Nuclear Agreements between Iran and China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Germany. Deliveries of the first aircraft - B777-300(ER)s - were due to have taken place from this month onwards but have been repeatedly deferred owing to the tense diplomatic climate between Washington and Tehran.
As such, in a recent earnings call, Boeing CEO and Chairman Dennis Muilenburg confirmed the first consignment to Iran was now only due to take place in 2019.
"It's important again to restate that we continue to follow the US government's lead here, and everything is being done per that process," he said. "We have no Iranian deliveries that are scheduled [...] this year, so those have been deferred again in line with the US government process."
Other Iranian carriers with tentative order contracts with Boeing include Iran Aseman Airlines and Qeshm Airlines (claimed by management but never officially confirmed by Boeing).
President Donald Trump is expected to announce whether or not the United States will renew sanctions waivers against Iran by May 12.
