Kenyan cargo specialists Bushair Safaris, Rudufu, and Buffair Services have come together to form a new consolidated regional passenger carrier named Tristar Air (Kenya) (Nairobi Wilson).

Tristar Chief Executive Officer Daniel Murithi told The Standard newspaper last week that each of the carriers have an equal stake in the new airline which will be based out of Nairobi Wilson.

“The three cargo airlines came together to form a common entity because they resolved it would not be efficient for each to start its own passenger line. That would only have added to the already stiff competition in the market,” Murithi said.

A virtual carrier, Tristar Air offers regular passenger flights from Nairobi Wilson to Mombasa (5x weekly), Lodwar (via Eldoret) (2x weekly) and Kisumu (8x weekly) using Fokker 50 equipment chartered from its constituent shareholders, ch-aviation analysis of Tristar's schedule data reveals. Tristar has also mentioned Malindi, Lamu, El Wak and Mandera as destinations it is planning to add.
