Hawaiian Airlines (HA, Honolulu) has firmed up a previous commitment to Boeing (BOE, Washington National) for ten B787-9s with purchase rights for ten more B787s. The order was first announced as a Letter of Intent (LOI) back in March.
According to the carrier, the widebodies will be powered by General Electric GEnx engines with deliveries expected to start in 2021. They will be deployed primarily on medium- and long-haul routes.
Hawaiian Airlines currently operates a widebody fleet of twenty-four A330-200s, one B767-300, and six B767-300(ER)s on flights connecting the Hawaiian archipelago with China, Japan, and South Korea, Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific, and the continental United States.
