Southern Airways Express (9X, Memphis International) will launch 12x weekly service between Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International, PA, and Pittsburgh International on Wednesday, September 5, after Regional Sky (Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International) will withdraw from the route, Times Leader has reported.

Regional Sky, a virtual subsidiary of Public Charters (Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International), said that it could no longer sustain Wilkes-Barre/Scranton operations given its business model based on corporate charters. The carrier launched Wilkes-Barre/Scranton service in April 2018.

Southern Airways Express will increase the frequency of the route as Regional Sky only flies 10x weekly. The new carrier will deploy Cessna (single turboprop) 208 Caravans on the flights.

The regional specialist operates a network in the mid-Atlantic region, mostly in Pennsylvania, out of Pittsburgh Int'l and Baltimore International. It also maintains a separate regional network in the Gulf of Mexico region out of Dallas/Fort Worth.
