North Star Air (Ontario) (0N, Thunder Bay) opened its new, 15,000-square-foot (1,400-square-metre) hangar and warehousing facility at Thompson on August 18, 2018.
"The new facility provides us with a strategic location for long-distance shipping to our northern customers. The Thompson base is NSA’s first base outside of Ontario and will serve all of Northern Manitoba along with the Kivalliq and Qikiqtaaluk Regions of Nunavut," President Frank Kelner said.
The carrier also hired 25 full-time staff members at Thompson.
North Star Air already has operational cargo bases at Kapuskasing, Pickle Lake, Red Lake, and Thunder Bay, all of which are located in Ontario.
The airline currently operates exclusively cargo flights across Manitoba and Nunavut, while in Ontario it also serves scheduled passenger flights. North Star Air operates eight passenger-configured PC-12s, five Basler BT-67s (a type based on the DC-3), and two ATR72-500Fs.
