Hotelier Jerry Schwartz has announced that he would invest in Sydney Seaplanes (Sydney Rose Bay), becoming the third partner of the parent firm Sydney Aviation Holdings, The Australian has reported.
Schwartz, Australia's largest hotel investor, currently owns two seaplanes based out of Cessnock airport near the Hunter Valley. They are operated on private charter flights. Following the completion of the investment, the two units will join the existing fleet of four aircraft operated by Sydney Seaplanes. They will be deployed mostly out of the carrier's existing base at Rose Bay in eastern Sydney, although Cessnock will remain the second base.
Following the investment, Sydney Seaplanes' fleet will encompass three Cessna (single turboprop) 208 Caravans, two DHC-2s, and a single Cessna (single piston) 206.
"There is considerable demand for point to point air services between Sydney and the Hunter, and with six airplanes available, it will mean we can fly larger groups with greater flexibility," Schwartz said.
