Townsville airport in north-eastern Queensland, Australia reopened on February 4, 2019, at 1400L (0400Z) after nearly a full-day-long closure caused by severe floods that hit the region.
According to the ch-aviation capacity module, the airport is primarily served by Qantas (QF, Sydney Kingsford Smith) (95 weekly departures and 42% market share by capacity) and Virgin Australia International (VA, Brisbane International) (43 departures and 34.4% market share). Hinterland Aviation, Jetstar Airways, Airnorth (Australia), and Rex - Regional Express also operate scheduled flights to the city.
During the flooding, which caused the closure of the airport in the evening of February 3, both Virgin and Qantas cancelled services to Townsville.
The airport said in a Facebook post that although it is now open, some delays are to be expected due to the damage to the infrastructure and limited staff working at the airport. Some facilities, such as bars and cafes, remain unavailable for passengers.
