Qantas (QF, Sydney Kingsford Smith) has announced it has cancelled the eight A380-800s it still has on order from Airbus.
“Following discussions with Airbus, Qantas has now formalised its decision not to take eight additional A380s that were ordered in 2006,” a Qantas spokesman said in a statement. “These aircraft have not been part of the airline’s fleet and network plans for some time.”
In light of the cancellation, Qantas said it will instead upgrade its existing fleet of twelve A380s, beginning later this year.
Qantas operates its A380s in a 484-seat configuration. They are deployed on flights from Sydney Kingsford Smith and Melbourne Tullamarine to Singapore Changi, Hong Kong International, Los Angeles International, Dallas/Fort Worth, and London Heathrow.
