Meridiana fly (Olbia) is acquiring competitor Air Italy (I9/Milan Malpensa) for 90 million EUR. Meridiana fly itself has given up several routes as part of its restructuring plan that includes nine MD-80s being gradually phased out and 910 job cuts. It has already terminated its routes from Alghero to Bari and Milan Linate and from Venice Marco Polo to Bari and Catania on October 30, 2010, from Milan Linate to Bari and from Venice Marco Polo to Palermo on January 10 and from Bologna Marconi to Palermo as well as from Florence to Amsterdam on March 27. It also no longer serves Mykonos, Olbia and Sharm el Sheikh from Bari, Lampedusa from Bologna Marconi and Rome Fiumicino, Helsinki from Florence, Sharm el Sheikh from Naples as well as Alghero, Brindisi, Heraklion, Lamezia Terme, Lampedusa, Naples, Pantelleria and Skopje from Verona and has not resumed seasonal service to Tortoli from Milan Malpensa, Olbia, Rome Fiumicino and Verona this summer. Meridiana fly will also terminate its services from Florence to Barcelona on August 27, to London Gatwick on October 29 and Madrid on October 10.
