Fly Jamaica Airways (Kingston Norman Manley) has terminated all operations and made its entire staff compliment redundant as of Sunday, March 31. In a statement, the carrier's chief executive, Paul Reece, said a lack of serviceable aircraft had eroded its financial position to the point it could no longer sustain operations.
However, while Fly Jamaica has had difficulties in securing finance, Reece said it still intends to pay salaries backdated to November 2018. Moreover, in the event there is a turnaround in the airline's financial situation, and if workers are still interested, they may then apply for positions with the airline.
Fly Jamaica has been hamstrung since its B757-200, N524AT (msn 30233), sustained major damage during a runway excursion event at Georgetown Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Guyana, in November 2018. Several passengers sustained injuries of which an elderly woman later died.
Fly Jamaica operated scheduled flights from Guyana to Kingston Norman Manley, Jamaica; Toronto Pearson, Canada and New York JFK, United States.
