Colombian cargo specialist AerCaribe (JK, Bogotá) and its Peruvian subsidiary AerCaribe Perú (EF, Lima International) are planning to start cargo flights to the United States using B747-400(F) equipment. The two carriers have since lodged separate applications with the US Department of Transportation (DOT) seeking exemption authority and a Foreign Air Carrier Permit (FACP).
AerCaribe (Colombia) said it plans to initially run ad-hoc charters between Colombia and the US using three B747-476(F)s while AerCaribe (Perú) plans to offer similar services between Peru and the US albeit using two B747-476(F)s.
The Colombian carrier's fleet consists of two B737-400(F)s used on flights throughout Colombia and the surrounding region. Its Peruvian sister, on the other hand, operates An-32 freighters on flights throughout Peru.
AerCaribe (Colombia) is owned by Colombian tycoon Jorge Luis Almeira Quiroz with a 95% stake. He also owns 70% of AerCaribe (Peru) with the remainder owned by Callao-based Aercaribe Service SAC.
