Western Air Bahamas (WU, Nassau International) is planning to launch scheduled and charter flights between the Bahamas and the United States using four E145LRs.
The Bahamian carrier applied to the US Department of Transportation for respective authority and exemption on July 26, 2019. Western Air initially requested the exemption for a period of two years.
The carrier currently uses its four E145LRs and seven Saab 340As to operate scheduled flights within the Bahamas, as well as charter flights to other destinations in the Caribbean. It does not plan to use the Saab (Sweden) turboprops on its future US operations.
According to the ch-aviation capacities module, there are currently 48,960 one-way seats per week on sale between the Bahamas and the US. The market is dominated by American carriers, with Bahamasair (UP, Nassau International), the only Bahamian airline serving the US, having only an 18.3% market share by capacity.
