Michigan-based Great Lakes Air (Mackinac County) has acquired a BN-2 from Britten-Norman (Bembridge), its first of the type.
According to the UK-based manufacturer, the twinprop will be operated on Part 135 flights from Mackinac County Airport in St. Ignace, Alpena, to various destinations throughout Michigan.
During the winter months, between mid-December and April, the Great Lakes are frozen, cutting off Mackinac Island and Bois Blanc Island thereby preventing workers from reaching houses and tourist attractions in need of winter repairs, as well as stopping mail and freight.
As such, during those four months, Great Lakes Air operates a six-minute flight from 0630L to 1800L that also delivers post and other essentials.
Great Lakes Air is an American Fixed-base Operator (FBO) and charter airline based at Mackinac County Airport in St. Ignace and Rogers City, Michigan. It also operates two Piper (twin piston) PA-32-260 Cherokee Sixs, and various other light aircraft.
