Qatar Airways (QR, Doha Hamad International) has delayed the deliveries of B787-9s as its new business class QSuite seats for the type are not ready yet, Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Akbar Al Baker told aviation blogger Alex Macheras.
"The good news is our B787-9 Dreamliner aircraft is ready, but we have delayed the delivery because our new business class seat is not ready," Al Baker said.
The Qatari flag carrier has thirty B787-9s on firm order from Boeing. They will complement the existing fleet of thirty B787-8s. Qatar Airways plans to equip the -9s with a new version of its flagship QSuite business class seats as the larger seats featured on the A350s and B777s would not fit into the B787's narrower fuselage.
The B787-8s do not have the QSuite seats installed.
According to the ch-aviation fleets module, Qatar Airways also operates thirty-one A320-200s, five A321-200s, six A330-200s, thirteen A330-300s, ten A350-1000s, thirty-eight A350-900s, ten A380-800s, nine B777-200(LR)s, and forty-eight B777-300(ER)s. The airline's cargo fleet includes five A330-200F, two B747-8(F)s, and nineteen B777-Fs. Qatar Airways also operates two A319-100ACJs in its VIP division.
