Air Demerara (Georgetown Cheddi Jagan) is planning to launch in 2021 operating international flights from Georgetown Cheddi Jagan and Georgetown Ogle using various Airbus aircraft, Chief Executive Zain Tulsie Issurdutt told the Guyana Chronicle.
The start-up plans to serve the Caribbean, North America, and Brazil but did not name any specific routes. It did not reveal any further plans but said it had already met with the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and received assurances that the regulator would support its launch.
The airline's president is Tulsie Ram Issurdutt, father of the CEO, who was the founder of Tristar Airlines (Las Vegas Harry Reid) in 1994.
Air Demerara plans to hire around 500 staff and will seek employees predominantly on the domestic market. It will also offer shares to employees and citizens of Guyana.
The South American country's only known scheduled carrier is understood to be Trans Guyana Airways (TGY, Georgetown Ogle), which operates two Beech 1900Ds, as well as Cessna (single turboprop) 208B Grand Caravan and BN-2 aircraft. Privately-owned Guyana Airways (Georgetown Cheddi Jagan) has been trying to launch since 2016.
