Quantum XYZ (Los Angeles International) is planning to launch electric air taxi services connecting Los Angeles International with neighbouring commuter airports in the agglomeration in early 2021, a press release said.
The start-up ordered twenty-six eFlyers from Bye Aerospace (Denver Centennial) in 2019, including 22 that seat four persons and four with two seats. The aircraft are conventional, propeller-driven machines that will operate from traditional runways. They are powered by Siemens electric engines in contrast to the Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) vehicles under development at other firms. As such, they are easier to certify and operate under the existing regulatory regime.
Quantum XYZ, which intends to operate the e-air taxis under the Quantum X brand, hopes to have significantly lower operating costs in comparison to comparable services operated by conventional types, such as Cessna (single piston) C172s.
