Having withdrawn its own application for commuter air carrier authorisation a year ago, Tailwind Air Service (PGN, Farmingdale) is now planning to launch scheduled seaplane services from New York Skyports SPB in cooperation with Southern Airways Express (9X, Memphis International).
The airline announced on its website that it plans to launch services from New York to East Hampton Town, Montauk, and Shelter Island on June 4. It will operate them through September 22 using Cessna (single turboprop) C208B Grand Caravan seaplanes. It will also operate charter flights to the same destinations and Nantucket.
Flights are operated under Southern Airways Express' code and sold by the latter airline.
Tailwind Air Service holds a Part 135 certificate, which does not allow it to operate scheduled or commuter flights under its own AOC. The airline abandoned its plans to obtain a commuter certificate in March 2019 after the town of East Hampton - the owner of the local airport - raised concerns about the carrier's financial standing.
Southern Airways Express does not operate seaplane services in New England, although it operates scheduled seasonal flights from Nantucket to Norwood Memorial, Hyannis, and Providence using C208s.
