flyPOP (London Stansted) has announced it has selected London Stansted as its main British base for planned services to secondary cities in India.
"During the pandemic, we have been in talks with a number of UK airports and we can now confirm London Stansted as our first UK base. London Stansted Airport has a history of being the base for low-cost carriers and we feel it is the perfect fit for our passengers," Chief Executive Navdip Singh Judge said.
The start-up clarified it was in talks with a number of secondary airports in India but did not provide any details about its potential destinations.
flyPOP has recently signed up for three A330-300s on dry lease from Avolon. The first aircraft is due for delivery in September 2021, ahead of the completion of the start-up's certification. flyPOP plans to begin operations by the end of 2021, using a single Airbus widebody. The other two A330s are due for delivery in 2022.
According to the ch-aviation schedules module, there are currently no scheduled flights between Stansted and India. All airlines operating scheduled flights between the countries (Air India, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, and Vistara) use London Heathrow as their British hub. Only TUI Airways, which operates scheduled charter flights to Goa Dabolim, operates from London Gatwick.
