Global Crossing Airlines Group – the parent of US ACMI/charter specialist GlobalX (G6, Miami International) - has signed a letter of intent to order up to 200 electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft (eVTOL) from Eve Air Mobility (Fort Lauderdale International).
Should the commitment be firmed, it would bring the Eve order book to 1,785 aircraft. The company expects to start deliveries in 2026.
"These eVTOLs will enable us to expand our market throughout south Florida, bringing our customers to their flights at Miami International and Fort Lauderdale International, as well as local flying within Key West and all of the Keys, Naples Municipal, and Palm Beach. This will help extend and expand our brand," said GLOBALX Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Ed Wegel.
Eve Co-Chief Executive Officer Andre Stein said GLOBALX' experience as an airline would contribute to the expansion of Eve's eVTOL deployment in North America. The partnership also ensures both companies' commitment to delivering sustainable UAM and providing the community with better and faster solutions."
The parties announced in a joint statement the completion of the deal is subject to the execution of definitive agreements and receipt of all necessary regulatory approvals.
Eve also announced that Miami-Dade County would be the site of its first urban air mobility testbed, resulting in a prototype that could be duplicated in other major centres. To this end, it has formed a consortium leading Urban Air Mobility (UAM) organisations and technology enablers, including Skyports, L3Harris Technologies, and the Community Air Mobility Initiative (CAMI), to develop a Concept of Operations (CONOPS) for UAM operations between Miami International Airport and the Miami Beach Convention Centre. It is now seeking community input to examine how additional procedures and frameworks can be developed in the coming months and years to facilitate the successful adoption of UAM operations in Miami-Dade.
Eve said the agreement with GLOBALX would be sought in this regard. "GLOBALX's expertise as a flag airline will contribute not only to the formulation of the infrastructure needed to permit eVTOL flights, but also the deployment of Eve's aircraft throughout their network," it said.
GLOBALX currently operates an all-Airbus leased fleet of five A320-200s with another of the type due for delivery; and one leased A321-200 with another five on order, according to ch-aviation fleets data.
