Cargolux (CV, Luxembourg) has selected the B777-8(F) as its future core aircraft type, the carrier announced jointly with Boeing during the Farnborough Air Show.
The announcement did not include any firm or disclosed commitments regarding the number of aircraft or the timeline for induction. Cargolux did not respond to ch-aviation's request for follow-up.
The Luxembourgish cargo specialist is currently an all-B747 operator with a fleet of 30 quadjets: six B747-400ERFs, ten B747-400FSCDs (three placed on the AOC of Cargolux Italia), and fourteen B747-8Fs. Chief Executive Richard Forson told ch-aviation in an interview recently that the airline was planning to transition to a twinjet fleet going forward. He stressed, however, that the B747s were still very useful and would be retained on an interim basis during the gradual transition.
